Cynthia Frise – Owner and Head Coach
Cynthia started riding at age 10 and tried fox hunting, eventing and Pony Club before settling on hunters as a teen. She enjoyed success in children’s and junior hunters and especially equitation. It followed quite naturally that she was coaching others by the time she was in high school.
While at Queen’s University, she was fortunate to train and show with Ian Miller. After graduating with a B.A./B.Ed., she taught school briefly while training with Mac Cone.
In the end, she chose to run her own barn, establishing Rossland Stables in Pickering in 1988 – a decision for which all her students are very thankful!
Rossland horses and riders have enjoyed success in hunters, jumpers and equitation. We are known to regularly win year end awards on both Trillium and A circuits. Over the years, our riders have qualified for both Trillium Championships and the Royal Winter Fair.
She is a ready source of information on all things equestrian from first aid to more serious ailments and also to day care of horses including high performance competition animals to the beloved school hack. Cynthia has always had a special interest in retraining OTTBs and in turning around “problem” horses.
Her passion and dedication is to ensuring your horse is the best it can be and that you and your horse grow and learn together.
Samantha King – Coach
Samantha was born in England and exposed to horses at a very young age. From that first experience at the age of 3 the passion for riding and horses was ignited. With her emigration to Canada she insisted to her parents that she be able to go to only riding camps during the summers and then started working at those camps. At the age of 17 she was the youngest director of the YMCA Riding Camp in YMCA history.
Living near Humber College North Campus gave her the proximity to the equine programs at there where she spent many years attending night school and assisting the riding instructors. Eventually Samantha attended the Humber College Coaching program and attained her Level 1 Coach designation and began teaching there as well.
With the closure of the Humber College Equine Program Samantha ran her own stables in Oakville and then Georgetown. She has worked with riding professionals Nancy Wetmore, Robert Sharpe, Greg Kuti, as well as for Vets Dr. Darryl Bondar and Dr. Peter Vatcher.
At the height of her business, she had many horses and students competing in eventing and hunter/jumper on the schooling, Trillium and A Circuits. Her facility in Georgetown also hosted Hunter/Jumper Schooling Shows and OHTA sanctioned events, including the Entry and PreTraining Ontario Championships.
Samantha has taught riding at Sunnybrook Stables (Toronto), The Riding Academy at the Horse Palace (Toronto), Southlands (in Vancouver), and Stonewood Riding Academy (Pickering).
She continues to be involved with horses as the Mum of as 12-year-old rider who competes on the Trillium and A Circuits, judging a few schooling shows and is so pleased to be teaching on Sunday mornings at Rossland Stables.
